Melissa Scarpelli
Melissa Scarpelli is a classically trained soprano who recently graduated from the Boston Conservatory with a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance. Her passion for teaching voice began at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where she led group ensembles and served as a section leader for the university choir.
After moving to Boston, Melissa expanded her teaching experience as a private voice instructor and assistant director with the Boston City Singers. She currently works as a voice instructor at Skyrise Theater Company alongside the Amy Dancz Voice Studio. She has also taught Music History as a teaching assistant at the Boston Conservatory.
As a performer, Melissa has experience across a wide range of vocal styles and genres. Her classical training has given her a strong foundation in opera and art song, while her performance experience also includes musical theater showcases, cabaret nights, vocal jazz ensembles, and singer-songwriter open mics. This diverse background allows her to approach singing from both a technical and creative perspective, and she enjoys helping students explore the many different ways they can use and express their voices.
Melissa’s most recent season as a performer includes performing in Italy with Grève Opera Academy as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Soprano Soloist in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. In May of 2026, she was a national semifinalist in the Classical Voice competition University Division. She also works for an Episcopalian church where she performs sacred music of a variety of genres.
Melissa believes that everyone has the ability to sing and that healthy vocal technique is the foundation for confident, expressive, and creative singing. Her teaching emphasizes building a strong technical foundation while encouraging students to develop their own unique voices and artistic identities. She strives to create a supportive and encouraging environment where studentsfeel comfortable experimenting, taking risks, and discovering the joy of singing.
